(MA) Climate Action Plan meeting:

Governor Healey’s Office of Climate Innovation and Resilience (Climate Office) is developing a Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP) as part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) – a program for states, cities, tribes and territories to plan how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with a specific focus on the impacts and benefits for communities. The third CCAP stakeholder meeting will focus on the project team’s approach to the co-benefits and low-income and disadvantaged communities (LIDAC) analyses.

When: Friday, April 11, 2025, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) Office of Public Participation (OPP) recently released the educational video “FERC’s Role in Regulating the Construction of Interstate Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline Projects” that explains the three phases of interstate pipeline construction: what happens after FERC authorizes a pipeline and before construction begins, FERC’s role during construction, and FERC’s role after construction is complete.

Demand Response & Energy Democracy

#NoCoalNoGas at the #CLG Meeting! Yesterday the topic was “demand response,” which focuses on energy grid management that reduces our times of highest energy usage. New England’s grid operators (ISO-NE) don’t utilize demand response mechanisms quite as much as other regions, preferring to have “peaker plants” that get called to run on the hottest and coldest days of the year.

We learned that other regions do have successful voluntary energy conservation programs. Advocates in this region want to see more of an effort to incorporate this kind of demand response – one that makes our polluting peaker plants irrelevant!

OPP recently held a workshop on “Public Participation in the Natural Gas Pre-Filing Review Process,” which is now available online here.

OPP’s next WorkshOPP, this fall, will focus on participating as an intervenor in Commission proceedings.
