The Fix the Grid organization and 54 other community justice, environmental, religious, and scientific organizations in New England are urging the New England governors and their state representatives in NESCOE to press ISO-NE to broaden its approach to winter reliability at the upcoming FERC symposium on winter reliability in Portland, ME. We believe strongly in the largely ignored contributions that transmission, demand-side solutions, and energy storage can make to reduce winter reliability concerns. We also believe that ISO-NE needs to take account of the public health and environmental impacts of current and future winter reliability policies and programs, including markets, on low-income environmental justice communities across New England. The massive spikes in electricity costs this past winter are of grave concern to all of us, but particularly to those individuals.
